Hannah's Life in a Year

At first I just wanted to post the audio of this song, because I’m heading to TLH for the night tomorrow. But then I realized I don’t have this entire album (!!!) on my computer. And then I found this video, and I was like, ehhh it’ll have to do, but THEN I remembered that not only was I at this show (I haven’t missed a Mountain Goats show in the North Florida area in…seven years?), but Ryan and Kyle and Max and Trav were also there, and we were standing in the very back of the crowd, singing our guts out to every song, and I had tried my first funnel cake that evening, thanks to Dave, and Max and I were going to NYC the day after the day after this, and I had gotten over my allergy attack, and I had been illegally drinking all day after illegally sneaking into the Artists’ Area, and everything was wonderful and I’m seeing Ryan and Kyle and Max and Trav in two days, or even less now, and this is the perfect video to post before my adventures begin.

One of the best shows I’ve ever been too. Not even counting Holopaw kicking ass, JV didn’t follow his set list, talked about David Bowie’s member, dropped his pick (but said that it definitely was not the worst thing that could happen to you while performing—that would be drooling on the mic), brought up a guy to play the stylophone with him on a song without ever practicing with him (the guy killed. it.), played a song with Holopaw where he directed them and it was magic in my earholes, and then proceeded to play his encore out in the parking lot with just the accompaniment of a tambourine, a floor tom, and a circle around him singing along.

Today was my town’s birthday celebration, which happens every year on the Thursday around this time. At least I think it does, because Thursdays in the summer mean concerts downtown (did I mention my hometownis Pawnee?). Anyway tonight the band consisted of two dads of my friends and two other dad-aged guys that my parents have known for basically my entire life. But honestly that isn’t saying much in a town of 13,000. My dad introduced the band, like he does every week, but the mayor also said some things, since it was a special day.

My mom and I went down to support him/listen to the music (it was bluegrass, and, as I’ve said before, my grass is definitely blue). We also went for free cake. There wasn’t that big of a turnout this year, which was kind of a bummer, but also good because it meant that there was less likely of a chance for me to run into someone I didn’t want to see.

In other news, I spent far too much time knitting a dumb cowl that was too big and not wide enough so it’s just this dumb blue circle but I think if I stuff it into my coat it might look ok popping out when it’s cold outside.
